"In this technological age where children are using gadgets from a young age they are becoming accustomed to a world of instant results and instant reactions. Involving children even from a young age to growing plants is a really nice way to balance this world of expecting instant gratification.
Learning to plant a seed, care for it, nurture it and watch it grow trains a child to know that results in the real world are not instant at the press of a button. Growing plants teaches patience, focus and diligence when caring for a living thing.
Looking after pets can also help a child with these skills but many of us do not have the space for a pet or are too busy to properly care for an animal. Plants however can be grown in a small pot on a windowsill, in a container on a balcony or in a garden. Whatever space you have can be used to grow plants either for decoration or for culinary use, such as herbs or vegetables.
So what are you waiting for? Involve your children in growing plants and give them skills for life."
